Solar Project Engineer

Job Description
  • Undertake energy production assessments which include site visits, solar data processing and quality checking, correlation analysis, review of energy losses, statistical analysis and reporting;
  • Undertake site conditions assessments which include elements of the above;
  • Produce detailed reports which review the feasibility of sites for development which will include feasibility studies, layout optimization, shadow assessment, and visual impact assessment;
  • Analyze interconnection due diligence materials to support project acquisition efforts;
  • Liaise/Interface with a wide range of stakeholders from solar developers / Governmental bodies to financial institutions;
  • Lead and assist internal groups to complete deliverables required by outside agencies to construct interconnection facilities;
  • Manage multiple projects to ensure they are completed within timescale and budget;
  • Produce written reports and other documentation for delivery to the Development team;
  • Participate in R&D projects and supporting continuous improvement of procedures;
Qualifications
  • Degree in an Engineering, Physics, Atmospheric Science or Mathematics field;
  • Minimum of (1) year professional experience in a similar role in solar PV energy, renewable project development and transmission planning, preferably with international solar PV project developers and/or solar EPC service providers;
  • Knowledge in solar PV energy industry software (i.e. PVSyst, PVPlanner, Solar PV Autocad), tools for statistical analysis of data (Access, SQL) and measurement techniques would be a plus;
  • Good organizational and effective time management skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving environment – operating to very tight timescales;
  • Strong attention to detail in order to produce accurate and high-quality reports for MGEN needs;
  • Adaptability and ability to cope with a wide variety of tasks;
  • Fluency in English; Chinese language would be a plus;
  • Ability to produce clear written reports and communicate verbally in English;

Solar Engineering Manager

  • Evaluate project feasibility including site visits and due diligence;
  • Develop electrical/structural designs for large scale solar projects;
  • Review and validate technical documents, including electrical single-line, wiring diagrams, schematics, electrical, structural, site plan drawings, and O&M manuals;

Commercial Planning Analyst

Electricity Market Forecasting

  • Develop and maintain dispatch optimization models, Monte-Carlo simulation models, and stochastic simulation tools using applicable software;
  • Forecast electricity prices and perform market simulation studies related to the electricity market;
  • Conduct short-term and long-term modeling and forecasting of variable margin of MGEN’s portfolio;
  • Conduct sensitivity analysis under constraints e.g., seasonal and diurnal load variance, renewable energy integration, transmission constraints, and reserve requirements;
  • Back-test models to ensure forecast integrity;
  • Gather information and maintain datasets related to the energy market; and
  • Identify effective trading strategies and other forms of derivatives in relation to WESM.

Commercial Reporting

  • Prepare regular reports showing WESM system performance and trading performance of MGEN’s portfolio; and
  • Prepare business performance and ad-hoc reports showing the evolution of the variable margin of MGEN’s portfolio.

Project Valuation Support

  • Provide market forecasts for project valuation and assessment

Commercial Market Strategy and Policy

  • Assist in development of contracting strategy through determination of optimal portfolio mix and monitor its execution (hedge positions)

Market Surveillance and Research Assessment

  • Monitor market developments and lead assessment on the business impact
Qualifications

Project Analyst

  • Ensure that the financial models for development or acquisition projects are accurate, and of high quality, reflective of the likely performance of the projects based on key business drivers and assumptions, validated through contracts, internal and external expert review and other reputable sources and references, and consistent with applicable accounting standards and taxation laws;
  • Develop a financial model template that will give insight on a project’s historical and projected financial performance, equity return and dividend yield, and its enterprise value through application of valuation methods such as Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) and other valuation multiples such as Equity Value (EV) / Earnings Before Income Tax Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA), Book Value (BV) and Price Earnings (PE);
  • Develop the comprehensive data book that will be the basis of the financial model;
  • Assist in the design of the financial model so it will allow for ease of robust sensitivity and scenario analyses and the quantification of the impact on equity return and dividend yield, for example, of key risks such as changes in volume and price, fuel and other cost inputs, interest and exchange rates or delay and cost overruns and financing scenarios;
  • Present financial projections, financial sensitivities and comparable analysis in a clear presentation format to drive the essence of any message through;
  • Work with other analysts to ensure that the financial models are timely and accurately updated based on current macroeconomic conditions and reflect the project economics based on latest commercial agreements;
  • Ensure that the financial models are developed in such a way that can be easily checked for accuracy;
  • Coordinate and interact with management in matters related to the identification of events that have happened or are unfolding and the quantitative and qualitative analyses of their impact on the projects’ financial performance or economic viability.
Qualifications
  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree or quivalent in Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, Accountancy, Engineering, Mathematics, or related areas;
  • MBA or equivalent Masters level degree of CFA / CPA or an equivalent charter will be desirable;
  • Extensive experience in the field of audit or finance with background in the power industry preferred;
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in financial modelling, economic analysis, forecasting, budget preparation, asset or business valuation, and/or financial reporting with a thorough understanding of principles and techniques for enterprise valuation, investment and risk management, structuring and project finance;

Regulatory Analyst

  • Conduct research, provide inputs and assist in drafting various position papers in relation to the upsurge in DOE’s issuance of several proposed crucial policies and framwork for the renewable energy industry, contestable markets, audit of energy participants, reserve market and ancillary services;
  • Participate in the drafting of circulars and policy framework as well as attend the public consultations to ensure that said policies will not adversely affect the business of MGEN;
  • Provide inputs and collaborate with the Commercial Team in the Rule Making function of the ERC by assisting in the drafting of MGEN’s position papers;
  • Attend the PubCon to assist the AVP Regulatory in further elaborating MGEN’s position and explain to the Comissioners / hearing officers the implication of the proposed research on ERC filed cases;
  • In collaboration with the AVP Regulatory, recommend to Management if MGEN needs to intervene/oppose said cases that may impact the business;

General Accountant

  • Perform financial statement closing process by monitoring month-end adjusting entries, verify accounting entries in the financial management system (FMS) and preparation of bank reconciliation of bank accounts;
  • Prepare monthly individual financial statements (i.e., balance sheet, income statement and cash flows);
  • Perform monthly consolidation of balances and prepare Consolidated Financial Statements
  • Monitor and maintain subsidiary account balances/ledgers (e.g., monthly property and equipment lapsing schedules, accounts receivable and payable balances, reclassification);
  • Prepare inputs on financial reports and perform research on relevant information (i.e., accounting, regulatory);
  • Ensure that accounting of transactions are recorded in accordance with Philippine Financial Reporting Standards (PFRS).
  • Cross-refers tax return information to financial statement balances and preparation of attachments for the electronic filing of income tax returns (e.g., monthly alphalist of payees);
  • Perform e-Filing of monthly tax returns;
  • Prepare drafts of annual income tax returns;
  • Prepare initial draft of annual financial statements, including financial statement disclosures;
  • Coordinate with external auditors for the year-end audit of balances, prepares year-end audit requirements (i.e., documents, supporting schedules) and participates in the financial statement review process;
  • File annual financial statements and income tax returns with the BIR and SEC;
  • Coordinate with government agencies for general tax and other regulatory matters;
  • Consolidate financial models from development projects and develop financial models based on assumptions/scenarios prescribed by management;
    • Prepare all tax returns (e.g., income withholding, final taxes, fringe benefit and value-added taxes) required to be submitted on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis and ensure timely and correct filing and payment to the BIR;
    •  Prepare current and deferred income tax schedules’ quarterly and annual income tax provision work papers, and ensures proper maintenance of tax records;
    • Prepare monthly account reconciliation of various tax accounts within the general ledger;
    • Prepare requirements of the BIR and closely coordinate with tax advisors regarding on-going BIR audits.
    • Provide tax information reports to the Accounting and Budget teams for budgeting and forecasting.
    • Perform research on new tax legislation and review their potential effects to the Company and its subsidiaries;
    • Participate in drafting the company’s tax plan and tax studies for planned or anticipated transactions and ensure that tax optimization opportunities are taken into consideration;
    • Maintain contact with external consultants and BIR personnel to ensure up-to-date information on relevant tax issues affecting the Company;
    • Reports to management or any changes or proposed changes in taxation; and
    • Perform other pertinent tasks that may be assigned by the Immediate Manager.

Finance Manager
