Cebu Energy Development Corporation
Cebu Energy Development Corporation (CEDC) owns and operates a 246 MW clean coal-fired power plant located in Toledo City, Cebu.
CEDC is a consortium composed of GBP, Aboitiz Power Corporation and Vivant Integrated Generation Corporation, with Formosa Heavy Industries Corporation providing the design and supply of CEDC’s equipment.
Commencing commercial operations on February 26, 2011, the CEDC power plant is the first commercial clean-coal facility in the country that utilizes the Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler technology. It has turned the tide towards cleaner transitional technology as it supports economic development with lesser impact to the environment.
No new baseload plant was made available for the entire province of Cebu and neighboring islands in over 20 years prior to CEDC’s operations. With the assurance of a stable power supply through CEDC, Toledo City and the rest of the province of Cebu have witnessed the advent of rapid economic development, particularly in the areas of tourism, shipbuilding, retail shopping, and other major industries.
