Hong Kong — December 6, 2024 — Terra Solar Philippines Inc. (TSPI), a unit of MGEN Renewable Energy Inc. (MGreen), signed a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Supply Agreement with Huawei International, Pte. Ltd. (Huawei) to deliver the latest BESS for the MTerra Solar project.
To date, this is Huawei’s biggest BESS project for an integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) and BESS facility. The agreement covers the entire 4,500 MWhr capacity of the MTerra Solar project.
This collaboration reinforces the Philippines’ potential to be a global leader in renewable energy innovation, with MTerra Solar set to become the world’s largest integrated solar PV and battery storage facility.
“By combining MTerra Solar’s vast solar power generation capacity with Huawei’s cutting-edge energy storage solutions, we are creating a powerful synergy that will optimize grid operations, ensuring a consistent and uninterrupted power supply,”
– Emmanuel V. Rubio, President and CEO of Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN).
“This capability not only enhances grid stability but also enables the seamless integration of variable renewable energy into the national energy grid,”
– Dennis B. Jordan, President and CEO of MGreen
Spanning Central Luzon, MTerra Solar will combine 3,500 MWp of solar PV with 4,500 MWhr of battery, capable of supplying clean energy to over two million households. The project recently broke ground in Nueva Ecija, signaling progress in developing this historic facility. It is set to begin commercial operations in phases, with Phase 1 scheduled for February 2026 and Phase 2 following in February 2027.
MTerra Solar reflects the shared commitment of MGEN to sustainability, innovation, and energy independence for the Philippines.
