Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) is driving the Philippines’ energy transition with urgency and purpose. Through its renewable energy arm, MGEN Renewable Energy, Inc. (MGreen), the company continues to expand its clean energy portfolio in support of the country’s energy security and renewable energy targets. To date, MGreen operates seven solar power plants across Northern and Southern Luzon, strengthening the nation’s renewable energy capacity while uplifting local communities and fueling regional development.
In the first quarter of 2025, MGEN marked a major milestone with the successful inauguration of three new solar power plants located in Isabela, Nueva Ecija, and Rizal. These newly commissioned facilities add a combined 152.7 megawatt alternating current (MWac) to the grid, powering over 154,000 homes with clean energy while boosting local economic growth.
MGEN’s affiliate, Terra Solar Philippines, Inc. (MTerra Solar), is also pushing forward with what is set to be the world’s largest integrated solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage facility.
As of end-April 2025, the project has achieved 42% overall progress by continuing substation construction, advancing site development, and assembling mounting structures for the solar panels. Once operational, MTerra Solar will deliver 3,500 MWp of solar power and 4,500 MWh of battery storage, avoiding 4.3 million tons of carbon emissions annually.
With these developments, MGEN is on track to surpass its target of 1,500 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2027, significantly ahead of its original 2030 goal. This momentum reflects MGEN’s commitment to leading the country’s energy transition through a diversified and low-carbon portfolio.
