24 October 2025 – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) received major recognition at the 2025 Asian Power Awards, earning several distinctions that highlight its growing regional leadership in power generation –  CEO of the Year for MGEN President and CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio, and Power Plant Upgrade of the Year – Philippines for its Baras Solar project in Rizal. In addition, PacificLight Power Pte Ltd (PLP), MGEN’s Singapore-based subsidiary, was honored with Fast-Track Power Plant of the Year (Gold), and Power Plant Upgrade of the Year – Singapore.

Mr. Rubio was named CEO of the Year for his strong leadership and strategic direction that have positioned MGEN to play a leading role in the Philippines’ energy transition. Under his leadership, the company has significantly expanded its energy portfolio and advanced key developments across its power generation businesses — including the MTerra Solar project, which is poised to become the world’s largest integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage facility once completed; the country’s first integrated liquefied natural gas (LNG) complex in Batangas; and several other solar and battery storage projects. MGEN is also on track to exceed its target of 1,500 MW in renewable energy capacity by 2027, three years ahead of schedule. These initiatives reflect the company’s long-term strategy to more than double its net sellable capacity to 10,357 MW by 2030 – ensuring reliable, sustainable, and future-ready energy for the Philippines.

MGEN Renewables was recognized with the Power Plant Upgrade of the Year – Philippines award for the expansion of MGEN Renewables Baras Solar. Now operating at a total capacity of 80.1 MWac, it stands as the first and only solar farm in Rizal province and continues to power communities with clean energy. The project also fueled local economic growth, employing over 1,600 workers – including more than 300 women – during construction, a testament to MGEN’s commitment to inclusive development. The expansion also supports the Department of Energy’s renewable energy targets of 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040. This recognition reflects MGEN’s drive to build a more inclusive and sustainable energy future for the Philippines.

PLP also received the Power Plant Upgrade of the Year – Singapore for Powering Efficiency: Asia’s First ATEP Upgrade at PacificLight, and an award for Fast-Track Power Plant of the Year (Gold) for its 100 MW Fast Start Services – Enhancing Grid Resilience for Singapore. These recognitions underscore PacificLight’s pivotal role in strengthening regional energy resilience and efficiency under the MGEN portfolio.

Guided by its mission of “Powering a Better Tomorrow,” MGEN continues to advance projects that address the energy trilemma — ensuring energy that is reliable, affordable, and sustainable for all Filipinos. These recognitions from the Asian Power Awards reaffirm its growing impact and leadership as it drives the Philippines’ transition toward a more sustainable and inclusive energy future.
