MGEN Renewables Operations and Maintenance Head Rogelio II Rivera and MGEN President and CEO Dennis B. Jordan receive “Power Plant Upgrade of the Year – Philippines” for MGEN Renewables Baras Solar at the 2025 Asian Power Awards.

11 December 2025 – Pasig City, Philippines – MGEN Renewable Energy, Inc. (MGEN Renewables), the renewable energy arm of Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN), recently earned multiple accolades on the international stage. MGEN Renewables bagged a total of 6 awards from Asian Power Awards, Asia-Pacific Stevie® Awards, and IJGlobal ESG Awards 2025 and affirming MGEN’s commitment to accelerating the country’s energy transition through strategic and utility-scale renewable energy developments.

Asian Power Awards 2025

At the 2025 Asian Power Awards, widely regarded as one of the power industry’s most prestigious platforms in Asia, MGEN Renewables was recognized with the Power Plant Upgrade of the Year – Philippines award for the expansion of MGEN Renewables Baras Solar. Now operating at 80.1 MWac net saleable capacity, it stands as the first and only solar farm in Rizal province and continues to power communities with clean energy. This also fueled local economic growth during its construction, employing 1,600 workers – including more than 300 women – reflecting MGEN’s strong commitment to inclusive development.

IJGlobal ESG Awards 2025

The IJGlobal ESG Awards, a prestigious event celebrating standout greenfield and refinancing deals across the global energy and infrastructure industry, recognized MTerra Solar — MGEN Renewables’ flagship project in Bulacan and Nueva Ecija — as ESG Developer of the Year – Asia Pacific.

This recognition affirms MGEN’s leadership in responsible project development and its commitment to integrating sustainability and social impact into its renewable energy projects, ensuring that host communities thrive alongside the country’s energy transition.

Asia-Pacific Stevie® Awards 2025

MTerra Solar also earned multiple distinctions at the Asia-Pacific Stevie® Awards, an international program that recognizes innovation across organizations in the region. The project received:

  • Gold Stevie® – Innovation in Energy & Sustainability
  • Gold Stevie® – Sustainability & Climate Protection Services
  • Bronze Stevie® – Sustainable Business Models

The MTerra Solar project, poised to become the world’s largest integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage facility upon completion, will provide clean energy to 2.4 million households annually and help avoid up to 4.3 million tons of carbon emissions each year – equivalent to taking more than 3 million gasoline-powered vehicles off the road.

BulacanSol, MGEN Renewables’ 55 MW operational solar power plant, was also recognized with a Bronze Stevie under the Sustainability & Climate Protection Services category for “BulacanSol: Meralco’s Road to a Coal-Free Future by 2050.” This highlights the plant’s critical role in enabling One Meralco’s Long-Term Sustainability Strategy – which aims to support a responsible and inclusive shift to cleaner energy.

“These recognitions reflect the hard work of our teams and partners, and more importantly, the impact our projects are making in the host communities. As we continue building a more sustainable energy future, we remain focused on pushing forward responsible and community-centered renewable energy projects – all to power a better tomorrow,” said MGEN Renewables President and CEO Dennis B. Jordan.

Together, these awards affirm MGEN’s steady advance toward its target of 1,500 MW of renewable energy by 2030 – demonstrating its commitment to strengthening the country’s energy security and supporting the Philippines in meeting its national goals of 35% renewable energy share in its mix by 2030 and 50% by 2040.
